Mrs. Trickjos texted me on my way home “So much water in garage”. I arrived at home to this scene. Luckily I store nothing on the floor, except the oil catch pan floating in the middle. Thankfully it drained quickly.

We purchased the house on July 1st and this was the heaviest downpour we’ve seen so far. At least the basement stayed dry. Still learning the quirks of this old house.

The Saturn got a new wheel bearing and wiper motor on Sunday. Brakes all around for the Bug this coming weekend.

I kinda slacked off on my Oppo posts. I should get back to doing those.

Ah, the joys of old home ownership. Hopefully it doesn’t become a habit, otherwise you’ll have to put a French drain in front of your garage.

It does have a drain and the pond didn’t last long. Maybe a simple cleaning will do the trick. Otherwise I think you’re right, I’ll be digging a big hole for a new drain.

I learned at the last place I lived, a garage shall always be much higher than its surroundings, or it shall fill with water under heavy downpour almost no matter what. That house actually almost got water in the front door for the same reason. Under one seriously ridiculous rain, water was flowing around either side of the house as though it were a stone in a river.

Yes, this definitely will be something I consider if we ever move. As long as it doesn’t happen often it won’t bother me too much. I’m just happy the basement stays dry even with heavy rainfall. There is a drain next to the driveway that usually does a good job. I guess the volume of water was too much today.

Dig a sump and pump it out to the street. I dug one under my house that’s five feet deep.

In the grass on the lefthand edge of the driveway. I’d suggest you dig it fairly large so you can install a largish sump pump that will have a longer cycle when it runs. Run a trench up beside the driveway and have it exit on the street so if flows into the storm drains. We dug a mondo sump behind my house some years back because my house is on an unfavorable slope.
